Meet Your Sarasota Dentist - Dr. Melvin Korattiyil
A Passion for Dentistry and My Patients
My profession allows me to connect with people from various walks of life. I gain so much from their experiences. When they begin to talk to me, and share stories about their lives, we move beyond being dentist and patient: we become friends. I spend my days helping my friends develop healthy smiles. What could be better?
As a general dentist, I get to practice all aspects of dentistry. I’m not constrained to one aspect of care, and I’m allowed to bring in different techniques to solve my patients’ needs. Each person presents both clinical and personal requirements. I find the care approaches that are right for their unique situation and concerns. No patient is the same and no day is the same. I’m constantly challenged and learning. And I love it.
My Education and Commitment to Continuing Education
- Undergraduate degree – University of South Florida
- Doctorate of Dental Medicine – Nova Southeastern University
- Advanced education in general dentistry – Miami Veterans Affairs Medical Center
I regularly participate in continuing education courses. I’ve focused on implant dentistry, periodontal surgery, restorative surgery, endodontics and root canal therapy, and oral medicine. Taken together, these allow me to provide my patients with the highest level of care.
Continuing education also ensures I am current on developments in the constantly evolving field of oral medicine. I must stay in tune with the new techniques and emerging technologies in order to provide quality care. My patients deserve the best.

Away from Work
I grew up in Tampa and now live in Lakewood Ranch with my wife Marita, who was my college sweetheart, and our two young sons. When I’m not caring for my patients, I’m with my family. I believe in giving 100% of myself to my wife and children, and being a good husband and father.
I also believe in giving back to our community. I’m involved with local dental charities that care for the less fortunate. I’m an active member in my church. I know I am very fortunate to be where I am in my life; and with that comes the responsibility to give to and assist others in our local communities of Siesta Key, Southgate, Phillipi Creek and beyond.
